About Boise

The population of Boise has ballooned from 102,000 residents in 1980 to 223,000 in 2016, making it the fastest growing city in the USA in 2018. Most of the City of Trees growth is attributed to technology companies relocating their headquarters from expensive cities like San Francisco and Seattle. Clearwater Analytics and Micron Technology make their home in Boise, while Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, T-mobile, and DirecTV also have divisions in the city. The Boise River Greenbelt continue to be the most popular park and outdoors experience in Boise, and the Old Idaho Penitentiary State Historic Site attracts thousands of tourists every year. Boise Golf

The Boise Open debuted in 1990 as part of the Ben Hogan Tour. Today (as of 2018) it is the Albertsons Boise Open and part of the Web.com Tour Finals held in September. The event is held at the private Hillcrest Country Club. Arthur Vernon Macan, Jr., known for his work at several golf courses in the Northwest, designed all 18 holes. The 2003 edition of the Albertsons Boise Open featured 13-year-old Michelle Wie, who became the youngest player ever in the tour. Quail Hollow Golf Club open in 1982. The semi-private course is known for its unique and challenging holes, despite not featuring any par-5’s. Many golfers get through the first five holes without using a driver. Warm Springs Golf Course is a public, par-72 course. Its located along the Boise River and known for its strategically-placed bunkers and water hazards. Falcon Crest Golf Course is located in Kuna, about 20 miles southwest of Boise. The 9-hole, par 76 course has very fast greens, lots of trees, and bunkers that force you to use all of your clubs. Eagle Hills Golf Course and BanBury Golf Course are two more public courses located in Eagle, about 20 miles northwest of Boise. Eagle Hills is known for its water hazards that keep you on your toes throughout your round. BanBury’s blue grass fairways, bent grass greens, and challenging layout make it a must-play for any golf enthusiast passing through Idaho.

Junior Golf in Boise

TGA of Boise is perhaps the best known and respected junior golf establishment in the state. The acronym TGA stands for “teach, grow, achieve,” which is exactly what the instructors and programs set out to do. TGA offers after-school programs, summer camps, and leagues for kids age 6 to 15. The First Tee of Idaho combines golf and life skills into its curriculum. Its mission to not only develop great young golfers, but also to build character and values in young people. The Idaho Golf Association (IGA) Juniors Program accepts boys and girls age 9 to 18. IGA places heavy emphasis on etiquette and personal development, and believes the two are integral to developing highly-skilled young golfers.
