Chicago Golf

The Willis (aka Sears) Tower, Lake Michigan, Millennium Park, Navy Pier, and the green-dyed Chicago River on St. Patrick’s Day are some of the most well-known attractions and events in the city. O’Hare International Airport is second in the world for total air traffic, while the area also has more roads in-and-out of the city than any other metropolitan area in the USA. When it comes to sports, the Cubs and Bears are the apples of Chicago sports fans’ eyes. The PGA does not have any official events in Chicago. The John Deere at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, is the closest the tour get to Chi-town. Some of the best private courses in the USA are located in Chicagoland, namely the Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton and Shore Acres in Lake Bluff. Perfectly-groomed greens and fairways are commonly cited when players speak of these two exclusive courses. Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton is widely regarded as the crown jewel for public golf courses in the area. The 27-hole championship course, awesome natural surroundings, great food, and top-notch facilities separate Cantigny from other courses. Cog Hill Golf and Country Club is the former host of the PGA’s BMW Championship (Western Open). It’s quite the thrill to playon the same course that Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, and Dustin Johnson all won championships.

Intermediate and experienced juniors also have the opportunity to take a six-week, group training course for $129 (as of 2018). The Chicago Park District Junior Golf League touts itself as the “little league” equivalent for golf. The Chicago School of Golf is another option for one-on-one junior golf instruction. Chicago PGA Players

Mrs. Lee Mida may not be a household name, but she holds a very prestigious distinction in the world of professional golf. Mida was born Lucia Gueth around 1890 in Chicago. She won the first Women’s Western Open back in 1930 at the Acacia Country Club in Indian Head Park, Illinois. The LPGA, established until 1950, retroactively designated all Women’s Western Open events from 1930 to 1967 (the last year of the event) as majors. Thus Mida won the first ever LPGA major.
