A place known as “Sin City” and “America’s Playground” is obviously is sure to have endless activities to partake in. Visitors soak up a view of the entire city from atop the Stratosphere in downtown Las Vegas or at the apex of the Linq’s High Roller observation wheel on the Strip. The casinos, hotels, and attractions are typically the first things to come to mind for Las Vegas visitors. Those visiting the area should also trek out to the Hoover Dam and up to Mount Charleston, which is only 45 miles from the strip and about 35 degrees cooler in the hot summer months. The golf scene is pretty impressive as well. The TPC Summerlin has hosted the Shriners Hospital for Children Open every October since 2007. The Shriners, not surprisingly, is one of the most popular events for fans on the tour. It was first established in 1983 as the Panasonic Las Vegas Pro Celebrity Classic and has since had several different names and been played at numerous different courses. Some of the host courses include TPC Las Vegas (formerly TPC at the Canyons), Desert Inn Country Club (now the Wynn Golf & Country Club), and many others that are now defunct. There are a number of courses in Vegas that a round can be played for $100 or less. The Boulder City Golf Course was voted the best bargain in southern Nevada by Vegas Golfer Magazine every year from 2011-2014. A round in the summer months costs as little as $50. The best midrange courses include the Lexington Course at Revere Golf Club and Las vegas national Golf Club.
Desert Willow Junior Golf Academy is the complete experience for youth golfers to learn the fundamentals and proper etiquette. The program emphasizes both golf skills and character development equally. Founder Pam Bowers was voted a top 50 youth golf instructor in the USA by U.S. Kids Golf in 2007. Future Champions Golf (FCG) is one of the most popular junior golf events in the country since its 2010 inception. FCG is held at Primm Valley Golf Club, and is open to youth aged 7 to 18. It is a qualifying event for the Callaway Junior World Championship.
Adam Scott is the most renowned PGA player with ties to Las vegas. He was an All-American collegiately at UNLV in 1998 and 1999. But his biggest claim to fame is winning the Masters in 2013. The win also made him the first UNLV golfer to win a major. Scott has 13 total PGA Tour wins and 10 more on the European Tour. He has earned over $47 million in his career, good for a top-10 ranking on the all-time money list.
