Los Angeles Golf

The City of Angels is known for its bumper-to-bumper traffic, Hollywood, the Lakers, the Dodgers, beaches, and beautiful weather year-round. Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox, and Warners Brothers are all located in the area, making L.A. the heartbeat of film and television in America. Los Angeles is also one of the top manufacturing cities in the western U.S., while the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach combined are top five in the world for cargo tonnage. Of course a city this vast and diverse also has an excellent golf scene. The Genesis Open (formerly the Los Angeles Open and Nissan Open) has been part of the PGA Tour since 1926. The event has been held at the exclusive Riviera County Club in Pacific Palisades 55 times in the tournament’s history (as of 2018) and has been its permanent home since 1999. The Riviera also hosted the U.S. Open in 1948; and the the 1983 and 1985 PGA Championship. The Rancho Park Golf Course is open to the public. It hosted the Genesis Open 17 times. No other course hosted the event more than five times. The Alondra Golf Course in Lawndale has two courses: one designed by William Bell and William Johnson, and the south course by Cecil Hollingsworth. Its, like many L.A. courses, is very affordable, with rate as low as $30 for 18 holes. Chester Washington Golf Course in the West Athens area is another great value with several challenging holes. The 13th hole is known to be the toughest. The par 3 is played on an uphill slope with the green encircled by trees and bunkers. Encino Golf Course is known for its dogleg 14th hole and pine tree-lined fairways.Check out our pre-fab putting green kits for self-installation in our Putting Green Store. PGA Player in Los Angeles

Amy Alcott graduated from Palisades High School in 1975. But she had perfected her golf game long before that. Alcott won a total of 29 LPGA Tour events, including a U.S. Women’s Open (1980), a du Maurier Classic (1979), and three ANA Inspiration/Dinah Shore championships (1983, 1988, 1991). Alcott is probably best known for jumping into the lake by the 18th hole after winning the 1988 Dinah Shore. She repeated the celebration in 1991, with Dinah Shore joining her and beginning a great tradition at the tournament. Alcott was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1999.
